Who is Sean Thornton?
I am an English Language Assistant at I.E.S. Alpedrete, Madrid. I have been working in Alpederete for a year, because I started in April 2016.
Although I can be considered either American or Irish, because of my nacionalities, I was born in Spain. My father is from Dublin, and my mother is from Chicago. I have been inmersed in the Spanish culture for my whole life, but I have had the chance to live in the U.S. too.
Being a Language Assistant has given me the opportunity to return to high-school and interact with teenagers from the teaching point of view. It has been quite interesting, as I have been developing different types of activities. The most important skills I have been showing are related to a Basketbal lesson plan that I directed myself.
Sport is my passion. I am a big fan of the Atlético de Madrid, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Cubs. I am also a basketball player in the senior ADC Boadilla team, where I have been playing and training for almost ten years; but I have been a basketball player since I was a kid. I believe in continuos improvement, no matter the age if you are committed to being a better player. Sports' values can be learned by engaging people in interdisciplinary curricula-designed activities. Responsibility, respect, determination, leadership, teamwork and self-belief are values that help to succeed in sports and life. I believe that the values of sport can be transferred to the teeneagers' lives, and that is why I feel I am an important asset when teaching Physical Education.
Personal background and interests
I have been studying many years to become the professional illustrator that I am today. I enjoy designing characters for video games, storyboards, and comic strips as well; but I considered myself a concept artist. Concept art is a way to illustrate ideas that a person/client has in mind before developing the final product.
